Rent-to-Own, Made Simple

Rent-to-Own, Made Simple
No interest math—just the piano price divided into 12, 18, or 24 monthly payments (RTO starts at $1,200 / $100 per month). First payment is due at signing. Each month you’ll click a payment link—easy. Delivery is typically $250–$350 (cash due at delivery; stairs/complex setups may add cost) and usually happens within 2–3 days unless you prefer a delay. Uprights get a final tune before leaving; grands are tuned by Jay after setup, plus a little concert before he goes. Learn more →

What is the Main Difference between the Spinet and other upright pianos?

The hammers are the same size in ALL 4 piano styles.  The Spinet Piano keys will PULL up the hammers to strike the strings.  In the larger pianos, the keys will PUSH up the hammers to strike the strings.

Because the soundboard of a Spinet is the shortest of the piano family, the ‘hammer action’ is lowered to fit inside the piano and therefore the hammers need to be leveraged differently than they are in the larger brothers.

Cross Section of Upright Pianos

Notice, all the hammers are the same size, but it's where they are placed in relation to the size of the soundboard making the difference being the spinet keys PULL up the hammer action while the others PUSH up the action hammers.

  • Not sure if it was Jay ('The Piano Man'?) I spoke with, but that had to have been one of the rudest interactions I've ever encountered with a rep at any piano store. I had a question about one of the models they have (literally just asked what year it was made), and there was immediate hostility. The dude may not care what it is or when it was made, but if I'm investing money into an kind of instrument, I want to know everything I can about it. I told him that I'm relocating to CO in about a month and asked if he could post a recording of it if it wouldn't be too much trouble (originally found on Facebook)--he just said to come in person and hung up. I was fully intending to purchase the piano over the phone and have it taken care of within the week like any regular transaction, but I wasn't able to get that far into the conversation. No clue why he acted like it was such an imposition to be asked a question.

  • Jay did an amazing job moving our piano! We had a great experience. Not only did he move the piano, but he taught us about the different parts of the piano, polished it, made it look new, and tuned it! He was efficient, friendly, and enthusiastic. His passion for music is contagious! He played several tunes and treated the piano with utmost care every step of the way. We highly recommend Pianos for Humanity!

  • Jay has been amazing to work with at our lesson studio. He took some of our highly used pianos off our hands, and we were able to upgrade another piano at a great price! His delivery team was easy to work with, and we are very happy with all our interactions with Jay and the Pianos for Humanity team. Thank you!

  • You may want to call the store beforehand to see if they're actually open before heading over. Their hours say they close at 7pm, but when I arrived at 6pm, the store was locked up. I actually think the owner pulled out of the parking lot in his white truck after he saw me pull in. I was able to get on the phone with who I assume is Jay based off of the other reviews. He said that "after 5pm, the place is a ghost town". He left early, so the store was closed. It would be great if the google description or the website asked you to call ahead if you plan to arrive after 5pm. As I was going through my options to come back a different time (I work and have a busy schedule), Jay said "You know what, forget about it. See ya" and hung up on me. While I was considering finding time to come back again, now I will not. I don't believe that Jay is a bad person or that the store is not a valuable place to find a great piano. However, because of my experience here, I will not be coming back and will not suggest the store to my friends.
