Main Difference between the Spinet and others

The hammers are the same size in ALL 4 piano styles.  The Spinet Piano keys will PULL up the hammers to strike the strings.  In the larger pianos, the keys will PUSH up the hammers to strike the strings.

Because the soundboard of a Spinet is the shortest of the piano family, the ‘hammer action’ is lowered to fit inside the piano and therefore the hammers need to be leveraged differently than they are in the larger brothers.

 

Notice, all the hammers are the same size, but it's where they are placed in relation to the size of the soundboard making the difference being the spinet keys PULL up the hammer action while the others PUSH up the action hammers.

  • We bought a rare antique Story and Clark piano/Lowry organ combination that Jay rescued and restored and couldn't be happier. Jay educated us about how the piano/organ works, how we can tune the organ, and offered his ongoing support should we need it. He even included a higher bench (due to an old shoulder injury) and delivered the piano almost two hours away.   • Jay sold us a beautiful Wurlitzer for the right price and delivered it tuned. He came back and retuned it and gave us a nice show! Highly recommended.

  • Jay really has a great thing going! There are lots of pianos on many different listings, but Jay takes the gamble out of finding a good one for a reasonable price. He knows his pianos and makes sure he delivers one in good working condition.
