Main Difference between the Spinet and others

The hammers are the same size in ALL 4 piano styles. The Spinet Piano keys will PULL up the hammers to strike the strings. In the larger pianos, the keys will PUSH up the hammers to strike the strings.

Because the soundboard of a Spinet is the shortest of the piano family, the ‘hammer action’ is lowered to fit inside the piano and therefore the hammers need to be leveraged differently than they are in the larger brothers.

Notice, all the hammers are the same size, but it's where they are placed in relation to the size of the soundboard making the difference being the spinet keys PULL up the hammer action while the others PUSH up the action hammers.

If you're looking for an affordable piano or piano services, look no further. Jay is an absolute delight to work with – reliable, responsive, knowledgable, the pianos are top quality, and you won't find better prices in the area. I purchased a 1912 Steinway upright which Jay had personally restored to impeccable condition, including repairing all mechanical issues & a new paint job / wooden decal that just look incredible (seriously, check out the photo). I am absolutely blown away by the sound, touch, and feel of this 100 year old piano, it's one of the best pianos I've ever played.

Jay is extremely rude and hostile. We were looking into a piano for a friend's birthday, and all of our questions were answered with hostility and mockery. We simply wanted to know what his services were, what selection, and if he partnered with movers or tuners for his rescues. We loved the idea of buying a piano that was restored and unwanted in someone else's place. We love supporting local, but we will never buy here.

The most fun you could ever have moving a piano! We found a great piano but no way to get it, so I called all around to find general movers, piano movers, anything but it was all outrageous and all they did was haul it for us at some point in the next few weeks. So I stumbled across Jay's company, Pianos for Humanity. He sells pianos so I called to ask if we could pay him to move one. Well, yes, how about tomorrow? Jay is so much more than a piano mover or seller though! He coordinated and picked up the piano from the previous owner without any trouble to us then brought it to us when we were home and then the real fun began! For less than the other quotes I got from just movers Jay took apart and dusted the back and inside of the piano, then cleaned and polished up and reassembled the piano flawlessly, explaining the different parts. Once that was done he rolled it easily into the house and he tuned it for us! I guess I expected piano tuning to be repetitive and uninteresting but it was surprisingly fun, and then he played several really fun tunes for the kids and now little sister wants to play the piano too! So he moved, cleaned, spruced up, tuned, and then played the piano for us all for a lot less than the movers and especially the piano movers would charge. When we decided to get a piano I expected it would be like pulling teeth, hard and painful and always taking longer than you can stand. Instead we all had a blast and got a beautiful antique upright piano tuned, played, and placed right in our home where we wanted it within about a day of finding the piano we wanted. He handled everything and was so much more flexible and personable than the alternatives. Jay truly is the piano man.

We bought a rare antique Story and Clark piano/Lowry organ combination that Jay rescued and restored and couldn't be happier. Jay educated us about how the piano/organ works, how we can tune the organ, and offered his ongoing support should we need it. He even included a higher bench (due to an old shoulder injury) and delivered the piano almost two hours away. Communication, service, and knowledge were great from start to finish—plus Jay's just a whole lot of fun to be around.
