Main Difference between the Spinet and others

The hammers are the same size in ALL 4 piano styles.  The Spinet Piano keys will PULL up the hammers to strike the strings.  In the larger pianos, the keys will PUSH up the hammers to strike the strings.

Because the soundboard of a Spinet is the shortest of the piano family, the ‘hammer action’ is lowered to fit inside the piano and therefore the hammers need to be leveraged differently than they are in the larger brothers.

 

Notice, all the hammers are the same size, but it's where they are placed in relation to the size of the soundboard making the difference being the spinet keys PULL up the hammer action while the others PUSH up the action hammers.

  • Fabulous experience! In February we bought a Wurlitzer Spinette for our daughters who had been taking piano lessons for about 2 years. They had outgrown the keyboard on which they learned.   • Jay from Pianos for Humanity clearly loves what he does. I've been thinking about getting a piano for months and then saw one that he had restored and tuned and he offers delivery for free. He is very responsive and clearly takes pride in his work. In these times where we are self-distancing for an unknown length of time, it's very uplifting to be able to have music in our house.   • Jay did an amazing job moving our piano! We had a great experience. Not only did he move the piano, but he taught us about the different parts of the piano, polished it, made it look new, and tuned it! He was efficient, friendly, and enthusiastic. His passion for music is contagious! He played several tunes and treated the piano with utmost care every step of the way. We highly recommend Pianos for Humanity!
